Who do you help and how can someone request assistance?
We help families with children who are sick or disabled. The child has to be under the age of 18 at the time of the event. Currently, we request a letter from the parent(s) or legal guardian of the child, explaining what are the challenges the child faces and what financial challenges is the family facing. We need a letter from a treating physician and pictures of the child. These items can be mailed or emailed to us.
We are in the process of developing a formal application packet that will be made available for download.
How do you select a family to help?
Based on the information provided by the families, the organization takes into consideration a number of factors – including but not limited to – long term prognosis of the child’s affliction – such as cure rate, life threatening or not, long term care needs, level of care necessary, challenges with the insurance company, if a treating physician is out of state and travel is required.
I know someone who needs help/I am going to request help, what can the money be used for?
The money can only be used for the child’s medical care. This includes, but is not limited to: Medical bills for the child, equipment the child needs for quality of life improvements, travel for the child to a treating physician. The money cannot be used for items such as rent, food, household bills, travel to other events, or to purchase a car.
Are your members paid or compensated?
No, all of our members – including our officers and executive board – are volunteers. Our members donate their time and money for the success of the organization and achievement of our mission.
I want to hold a fundraiser and have questions about how to do one. Can you help?
We can only advise on how we run our events. At any one time, we have 20 to 30 members, and it requires every single member to make the event run smoothly and be a success. We can try to answer any questions you might have. Please feel free to reach out to us via our contact page and email us your questions and one of us will get back to you.
Can you assist us with our event?
We let our membership know if there is a request for assistance at another event and each member decides if they want to assist or not. Because we are a not for profit, per the IRS, the organization is not allowed to participate in political, religious, or other restricted activities.
